Bosch ICON: A, B or OE?
The letters are fit clues. They are not a good, better, best ranking.

Comparison guide · Sources checked October 13, 2026
Keep the complete part number from Bosch’s vehicle lookup. A and B distinguish blade curvature; OE points to the Multi-Clip connector system. A matching length alone does not make two blades interchangeable. [1]
Start with the suffix.
Bosch describes B blades as having more curvature than A blades. A passenger-side application can call for either. Its OE designation describes a different connector approach, using Multi-Clip. Those distinctions are about application, not a performance ladder. [1]
“B” does not mean budget. “OE” does not mean universal.
The practical benefit of reading the full code is avoiding a look-alike substitution. The limitation: a suffix still cannot tell you which part your car needs. Treat decoding as a cross-check after the official vehicle result, not a shortcut around it.
Not every ICON code ends in just A, B or OE. The catalog also lists 28AOE (28OE) and 28BOE, and a separate ICON XT range. Keep combined suffixes intact. [2]
Three 22-inch labels. Different choices.
This deliberately small comparison uses Bosch’s catalog, not measured wiping results. It shows why a length match is insufficient.
| Part | Nominal length | 9 × 3 / 9 × 4 mm hook | 19 mm top-lock | 16 mm top-lock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 22A | 22 inches | M2, preinstalled | Not listed | Not listed |
| 22B | 22 inches | M2, preinstalled | Not listed | Not listed |
| 22OE | 22 inches | Not listed | Adapter 2, cover removed | Not listed |
22OE has other non-hook connector entries, but its 16 mm top-lock cell is blank. By contrast, 21OE and 24OE list adapter 4 there. That does not establish either as a substitute: their lengths differ. [2]
Our takeaway: do not buy a different length just to obtain a connector, or choose A versus B by which package is available. Resolve the complete application first.
The adapter is a second check.
Bosch’s installation sheet begins by identifying the arm and required adapter. It separates routes for different arm shapes and sizes, including 19 mm and 16 mm connections. Use the route shown for your actual arm and the instructions supplied with your exact blade. [3]
Adapter numbers belong to that product’s instructions. Do not assume that “adapter 4” means the same thing across brands, or that every OE package supports every arm. If the package, vehicle result and arm disagree, stop and ask Bosch or an auto-parts professional to reconcile them.
Keep the buying check short.
Use this as a reminder while comparing packages. Nothing is saved or sent. Checking every box does not certify fit.
Four checks to review. This is not a fit determination.
For a purchase decision, the right outcome may be a different part or professional help. This comparison does not establish a universally suitable pair and makes no lifespan, rain-clearing or noise advantage claim.
Quick answers
Can I replace a 22B with a 22A?
Do not substitute on length alone. The curvature distinction is the reason to keep the exact vehicle-selected suffix. [1]
Does OE guarantee it matches the original blade?
No blanket fit guarantee follows from the letters. Check the complete part against the vehicle and arm. The selected catalog examples show that connector coverage varies. [2]
Is a two-blade package automatically the right pair?
No. Verify the full code of each included blade against each position. Quantity answers how many blades you receive, not whether they fit.
Should I install it using a generic video?
Use the matching product instructions and your vehicle manual. This page deliberately does not replace an installation procedure with one universal clipping sequence. [3]
